그 당시 안동 김씨들이 세력을 잡고 있었는데, 그들의 속셈은, 이성계의 후손 가운데 한 사람을 허수아비 임금으로 세워 놓고, 실질적인 권력은 자기들이 가지고 있겠다는 것이었습니다.
At that time, the Andong Kim clan was in power. Their plan was to appoint a descendant of Seong-gye Yi as a puppet ruler so that they could control him.
그렇게 해서 왕위에 오른 사람이 강화도령 조선의 제 25대 철종 임금입니다.
Consequently, the person who came to the throne was King Cheoljong (Ganghwadoryeong) – the 25th king of the Joseon Dynasty.
인간적으로 보면 강화도령은 이성계의 피를 이어받은 왕족이었으니 임금이 될 수 있는 모든 조건을 다 갖추고 있었습니다. 그리고 실제로 왕위에 올랐습니다.
Since the royal blood was flowing in him, Ganghwadoryeong had met the condition to become the king. In fact, he became the king.
그러나 신하들은 아무도 그를 도와주지 않아서 왕답게 정치를 못했습니다.
But he could not rule with authority because nobody followed him. No servants showed him respect. All he had was the title.
그래서 강화도령은 왕은 되었지만, 매일 술이나 마시고 쾌락만 추구하다가 젊은 나이에 죽고 말았습니다.
As a result, he ended up wasting his life and living for the pleasures of this world. At last, he died at a young age.
우리는 이 역사에서 중요한 사실을 하나 배울 수 있는데 왕이 되었다는 사실과 그가 얼마나 왕답게 정치를 하며 살았느냐 하는 문제는 전혀 다르다는 것입니다.
We learn one important lesson from this: Becoming a king and actually living like a king are two different things.
그렇습니다. 우리가 하나님의 자녀가 되었다는 것과, 우리가 얼마나 하나님의 자녀답게 살아가느냐 하는 문제는 전혀 다르다는 것입니다.
That’s right. Becoming a child of God and actually living like a child of God are two different things.
여러분들은 하나님의 자녀답게 은혜롭고 행복한 삶을 살고 있습니까?
Are you living like a child of God now? Are you living in grace? Are you living a happy life?
많은 사람들 중에는 은혜와 행복을 이야기하면 내가 아니고 그 어떤 사람을 연상하면서 ‘그 사람은 은혜롭고 행복한 사람일 꺼야’ 그렇게 생각을 합니다.
When we talk about living in grace or living a happy life, most people think of someone other than themselves. People tend to say, “That person is probably happy.”
그러나 그렇지 않습니다. 그 사람도 나름대로 고난과 아픔이 있을 수 있습니다.
But that may not be true. The person they are thinking of might be going through hardship.
그렇다면, 우리가 왜 그렇게 생각하느냐? 은혜와 행복이 무엇인지 제대로 알지 못하면서 막연하게 은혜와 행복을 추구하기 때문입니다. 그래서 불행합니다.
But why do we think this way? It is because we seek to live a happy life without really understanding what it means to be happy. For this reason, many live unhappy lives.
