하나님은 그 감사를 통해서 영광을 받으시고 또 다시 은혜와 복을 베풀어 주십니다.

God is glorified when we give thanks and He will continually bless us.

“감사로 제사를 드리는 자가 나를 영화롭게 하나니 내가 그에게 구원을 보이리라.”

“The one who offers thanksgiving as his sacrifice glorifies me; I will show the salvation of God!”

그렇습니다. 감사는 하나님의 은혜를 아는 것입니다. 은혜를 알아야 하나님께 감사할 수 있습니다. 하나님의 은혜를 아는 것, 깨닫는 것, 기억하는 것 그것이 감사의 시작입니다.

That’s right. Gratitude means recognizing God’s grace. We can give thanks only when we understand the grace of God. The beginning of thanksgiving is to know, recognize, and remember the grace of God.

그런데 우리의 모습을 보면, 우리는 하나님의 은혜를 잊어 버릴 때가 너무 많이 있습니다. 하나님의 은혜가 너무 많다 보니 당연하게 생각하고 기억조차 않고 잊어 버립니다.

But we often tend to forget the grace of God. We take God’s grace for granted. We do not make an effort to remember and often forget.

바다에 사는 어부들은 바다가 주는 태고의 음성을 들을 줄 모르고, 알프스 산 계곡에 사는 농부들은 눈 덮인 알프스의 아름다운 장관을 볼 줄 모른다고 합니다.

They say fishermen cannot hear the beautiful sound of the ocean and that farmers who live in the Alps cannot see the beautiful landscape of the snow-capped Alps.

왜 그렇습니까? 그 속에 살기 때문입니다. 어쩌다 밥 한번 사주는 사람에게 감사 하지만, 일생동안 함께 먹고 마시게 해 주는 식구들에게 감사하지 않을 수 있습니다.

Why? It is because they live there. We thank those who buy us food once in a while. But we fail to give thanks to our family who provides our daily food.

지난 일년도 돌이켜 보면 모든 게 하나님의 은혜입니다. ‘Corona’, ‘Corona’ 했지만 Corona 걸려 죽을 뻔 하신 분들은 없잖아요.

Even when we look back on this past year, it was all by the grace of God. People were afraid of Coronavirus. But nobody here was close to death due to Covid-19.

모든 사람이 경제가 힘들고 어렵다고 야단이었지만, 밥 굶은 사람 있습니까? 자동차 없어 걸어다닌 사람 있습니까?

Everyone said the economy was bad but did anyone here starve? Did anyone have to walk because you did not have a car?

집이 없어 길거리에서 생활하신 분 있습니까? 우리는 살아도 너무 잘 살아요. 있어도 너무 많이 있어요. 그렇다면 우리가 똑똑해서 그렇습니까?

Did anyone have to live in the street? We have too much. We live too well. Well then, is it because we are smart?

우리가 잘 나서 그렇습니까? 아닙니다. “이 모든 것이 주님의 은혜” “지금까지 지내온 것도 주의 크신 은혤세.” 그래서 바울은 자기 인생을 돌이켜 보면서 문득 문득 “나의 나 된 것은 다 하나님의 은혜라”

Is it because we are special? No. “It is all by the grace of God.” “God’s great grace brought us here. All this way in faithfulness.”

그렇습니다. 내가 잘나서 이 세상 살아 온 것 같지만 내 발 걸음 인도하시고 보호하신 이는 하나님 이십니다. 이 사랑, 이 은혜 기억하셔야 우리의 감사가 세상적인 감사를 뛰어 넘을 수 있습니다.

That’s right. It may seem like we are doing well because we are special, but it is God who guides us every step. We must remember this love and grace. Only then will our gratitude surpass that of this world.

감사는 행복의 비결입니다. 감사는 축복의 근원입니다. 감사는 신앙의 극치입니다.

Thanksgiving is the secret to happiness. Thanksgiving is the source of blessing. Thanksgiving is the pinnacle of faith.

지금 내 손에 아무것도 없어도 감사할 줄 아는 사람은 행복합니다. 그러나 모든 것을 다 가지고 있다고 하더라도 감사할 줄 모르면 그는 불행한 사람입니다.

Though you may have nothing in your hands right now, there is happiness when you give thanks to God. But a person who never thanks God is unhappy though he may have the world.

바울은 옥에 갇혀 있으면서도 날마다 하나님께 감사할 때 그는 풍요롭고 행복했습니다.

Although the Apostle Paul was imprisoned, he always rejoiced and gave thanks to God.

사도 요한은 감사로 살았던 서머나 교회를 칭찬했습니다. “내가 네 환란과 궁핍을 알거니와 실상은 네가 부요한 자니라.”

The Apostle John praised the church in Smyrna because they always lived in gratitude. “I know your tribulation and your poverty (but you are rich)”

그러나 감사가 없는 라오디게아 교회를 향해서는 “네가 말하기를 나는 부자라 부요하여 부족한 것이 없다 하나, 네 곤고한 것과 가난한 것과” 가난한 자라고 심하게 책망을 했습니다.

But to the church in Laodicea, the Apostle John wrote, “For you say, I am rich, I have prospered, and I need nothing, not realizing that you are wretched, pitiable, poor, blind, and naked.” He rebuked them because they lacked gratitude.

그렇습니다. 가난하고 부요하다는 것, 불행하고 행복하다는 것은 물질의 많고 적음에 있는 것이 아니라, 그 마음에 하나님의 은혜에 대한 감사가 있느냐 없느냐에 따라서 결정됩니다.

That’s right. Happiness does not depend on one’s wealth. Material possessions have nothing to do with one being rich or poor. What matters is your gratitude for the grace that you have received.
