그렇습니다. 우리 그리스도인들은 하나님이 주신 은사로 하나님이 기뻐하시는 길, 하나님이 은혜를 베푸시는 길, 하나님이 마음껏 축복하시는 거룩한 좋은 길을 잘 선택해서 걸어가야 할 줄로 믿습니다. 그러기 위해서 우리는
That’s right. We, Christians, need to choose the good and the holy way in which God delights in and pours out his grace and blessings abundantly through the gift that God gives us. In order to do this, we need to
- 부지런해야 합니다. Be diligent.
사람은 누구나 심는 대로 거둔다고 합니다. 인과보응의 법칙. 노력한 만큼 얻어지는 것입니다.
You reap what you sow. Law of Causation. We gain according to our efforts.
“눈물을 흘리며 씨를 뿌리는 자는 기쁨으로 거두리로다.” 어떤 일이든지 부지런히 노력하면 제일 좋은 길을 선택할 수 있습니다.
“Those who sow in tears shall reap with shouts of joy.”We can choose the more excellent way if we work diligently.
“구하라 주실 것이요 찾으라 찾을 것이요 문을 두드리라 그러면 열릴 것이라.”
“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.”
부지런해야 좋은 길을 찾을 수 있습니다. 그러나 게으른 사람은 성공하기 어렵습니다.
We can find the good way only if we are diligent. But it is difficult for lazy people to succeed.
놀 때는 좋았지만 결과를 찾을 때는 후회합니다. 그러므로 젊었을 때 열심히 부지런하게 살면 노년에 가서 웃을 수 있습니다.
It is nice when you play, but you will regret when you see the results. Therefore, if you work diligently when you are young, you can smile when you grow old.
그래서 노력은 성공의 어머니라고 했습니다.
So they say that diligence is the mother of success.
그렇습니다. 하나님의 뜻을 찾고 진리를 찾고 무엇인가 얻기 위해서 부지런히 노력하면 좋은 길을 선택해서 언젠가는 그 열매를 찾을 줄로 믿습니다.
That’s right. If you diligently try to find the truth and the will of God, you will choose the right way and eventually bear fruit.
1999년 첫 번째 안식년 때 스위스를 가본 적이 있습니다.
During my first sabbatical year in 1999, I visited Switzerland.
그때 제가 관심을 가지고 있었던 것은 눈 덮인 아름다운 알프스 산이 아니라 그 사람들의 국민성이었습니다.
What caught my attention at the time was not the beautiful Alps mountain that was covered by snow, but the national traits of the people.
한마디로 스위스 사람들은 지구상에서 가장 끊임없이 노력하는 부지런한 사람들입니다.
In short, the Swiss are the most persistent and diligent people on earth.
너무 높아서 풀도 제대로 자라지 않는 높은 고지까지 개간을 해서 목초지로 만들어 양떼를 키웠습니다.
It was so high that the grass would not properly grow. And yet they cleared the land and made it into a pasture to tend herds of sheep.
그들은 부지런합니다. 그들은 참으로 열심히 살아갑니다. 열차가 높은 산까지 올라가도록 만들었습니다.
They are diligent. They truly work hard. They even made it possible for the train to go up to the high mountains.
부지런히 노력하는 백성이기에 높은 소득과 힘을 자랑하고 있습니다.
Their diligence is reflected by their economy and authority.
위대한 로마가 망하게 된 이유가 뭡니까? 게으름과 나태입니다.
Why did the Roman Empire fall? It was due to their laziness and slothfulness.
국민들이 안일하게 서커스 구경이나 운동경기나 관람하고 놀고 있을 때 망하게 됐습니다.
The empire was ruined while the people were idly playing or watching circus and sports.
그렇습니다. 좋은 길을 선택하기 위해서는 부지런해야 합니다.
That’s right. Diligence is required to choose the good path.
열심히 일하면서 그 길을 찾아야 성공할 수 있습니다.
We will succeed when we search for the path while working diligently.
그렇습니다. 우리 그리스도인들은 세상 사람보다 더 부지런히 열심히 살아가야 합니다.
That’s right. Christians like us need to work harder and live more diligently than the world.
신앙생활도 열심히 해야 합니다. 성경도 열심히 읽어야 합니다.
We must be diligent in our spiritual walk. We need to read the Bible diligently.
