인류의 조상 아담과 하와에게도 선택의 자유가 있었습니다.

Adam and Eve, the first man and woman, had free will as well.

그러나 그들은 하나님께서 원하시는 좋은 길을 선택한 것이 아니라 자기들이 좋아하는 길을 선택했기 때문에 그들과 더불어 인간들은 영원히 죄악 가운데서 고통당하며 살아가게 됐습니다. 잘못된 나쁜 선택이었습니다.

However, they chose to please themselves rather than choosing the way that was pleasing to God. As a result, Adam and Eve along with all mankind had to suffer and live in sin forever. It was a bad and a wrong decision.

아브라함의 생애를 보면, 아브라함이 하나님의 말씀을 듣고 갈 바를 알지 못했지만, 하나님께서 지시하시는 좋은 길을 선택하고 믿음으로 걸어갔을 때 형통했습니다.

Take a look at Abraham’s life. At first, Abraham did not know where to go after hearing from God. However, when he decided to go to the way God had directed him and walked in faith, he prospered.

부요했습니다. 행복했습니다. 성공했습니다. 그러나 자기 마음대로 자기 길을 선택해서 걸어갔을 때 고통을 당했습니다.

He became wealthy, happy, and successful. But when he chose his own way, he suffered.

수모를 겪었습니다. 모욕을 당했습니다. 불행했습니다. 죽을 뻔했습니다. 이스라엘 백성들도 그랬습니다.

He was reviled and insulted. He became miserable and almost died. The same was true with the Israelites.

하나님께서 좋을 길, 밝은 길, 자유의 길, 평화의 길을 예비해 주셨지만 자기들 스스로 잘났다고 교만해서 그 좋은 길을 외면하며 자기 마음대로 자기 길을 선택했을 때 그들은 40년 동안 광야에서 방황했습니다.

Although God had prepared for them a good and a bright road, a way of freedom and peace, they rejected that and prideful chose their own way. Consequently, they had to wander in the wilderness for 40 years.

죽었습니다. 안 해도 될 고생을 많이 했습니다. 그렇습니다. 우리에게 주어진 선택이란 이렇게 중요합니다.

They died. They went through many unnecessary suffering. That's right. Choice is very important for us.

순간의 선택이 일생을 좌우합니다. 어떤 사람은 순간의 좋은 길을 바로 선택함으로 일생을 행복하게 살아가는가 하면,

A choice we make determines our life. While some live their lives happily due to the right choice they made in a moment,

어떤 사람은 순간의 잘못된 선택으로 일생을 불행하게 살아가는 사람들도 많이 있습니다.

others live their lives miserably due to the wrong choice they made in a moment.

그러므로 우리는 좋은 길을 선택해야 될 줄로 믿습니다. 물론 선택에는 정도의 차이가 있습니다.

Thus, we must choose the right way. Obviously, not all decisions are equally important.

아침에 옷을 잘못 선택해서 입고 나왔으면 그 이튿날 바꾸어 입으면 됩니다.

If you made a mistake in choosing your clothing in the morning, you can simply wear different clothing the next day.

점심을 잘못 먹었으면 저녁을 잘 먹으면 됩니다.

If you made the wrong choice for your lunch, you simply have to eat better for dinner.

그러나 남편이나 아내를 잘못 선택하면 오랫동안 바꿀 수 없어 고생을 해야 합니다.

But if you choose the wrong husband or wife, you cannot change that for a long time, and you will have to suffer.

그러나 잘 선택하면 오랫동안 행복하고 즐겁게 살 수 있습니다.

But if you make the right choice, you can be happy for a long time.

그렇습니다. 큰일이든지 작은 일이든지 하나님이 원하시는 제일 좋은 길을 선택해야 합니다.

That’s right. Whether it is big or small decision, we must choose the path God wants.
