어떤 목사님이 심방 가서 하박국 말씀을 보니 막 뒤지더니 못 찾더랍니다.

A pastor visited a deacon and read from Habakkuk, but the deacon could not find it.

‘집사님, 하박국 찾으세요.’ ‘목사님, 내 성경에는 하박국이 없네요.’

‘Deacon, find Habakkuk please.’ ‘Pastor, my Bible doesn’t have Habakkuk.’

기도도 열심히 해야 합니다. 포항에 있는 어떤 횟집 집사님의 이야기입니다.

We need to pray with diligence. This is a story of a deacon in Pohang who runs a raw fish restaurant.

이 집사님이 고기 잡는 정치망 어업을 하는데 너무 안되더랍니다.

This deacon was in the fishing industry specializing in gillnetting, but he was not doing well.

정치망 어업이란 바다를 약 20,30m 사서 안으로 들어오는 문을 1m정도로 고기 잡는 사업입니다.

Gillnetting consists of buying about 20,30m of ocean and catching the fish that enters through the gate that was about 1m.

그런데 고기가 잡혀야 돈을 버는데… 고기가 안 잡히니까, 그래서 빚을 내서 꾸려가는데 빚이 4억6천만 원 정도 되더랍니다.

But he did not earn money because he could not catch any fish… So he had to take out a loan, but in the end, he had a debt that was about 460 million won.

어떻게 할 수가 없더랍니다. 몸은 아프고, 죽고 싶더랍니다. 그런데 문득 하나님 앞에 한번 열심히 부르짖어 기도나 해 보자 하는 생각이 들더랍니다.

He did not know what to do. He was sick and just wanted to die. But he said that suddenly it came to his mind that he should try praying and crying out before God.

그 밤에 교회에 가서 울면서 하나님 앞에 통곡하며 부르짖었습니다.

That night, he went to church and wailed before God.

그런데 그 밤에 이상한 일이 벌어졌는데, 그 집사님 어장에 고기가 얼마나 많이 잡혔느냐?

A strange thing happened that night. Do you know how many fish were caught in his net?

방어가 5천 마리, 그 값이 5억2천만 원어치를 잡았다고 합니다. 하룻밤에, 믿어집니까?

He had caught 5 thousand yellowtails, which was worth $500,000. This happened overnight, can you believe it?

빚 다 갚고도 몇천만 원이 남아서 그것을 밑천으로 해서 사업을 일으켜서 지금은 장로도 되고 사장이 돼서 잘살고 있다고 합니다.

Even after paying off the debt, he still had money left over so he started a business.

And now he is an elder and a president of a company and living in prosperity.

저는 그 얘기를 들으면서 그 집사님이 그 밤에 열심히 부르짖을 때, 그 기도를 들으시고 하나님이 고기를 그 집사님 어장에 몰아넣어 주는 광경이 대단했겠다.

As I heard that story of that deacon crying out to God that night, and God answering his prayer by placing the fish in his net, I could not imagine how marvelous that would have been.

그 들어가는 문이 1m 정도라고 했잖아요. 밤새도록 고기들이 줄을 서서 막 달려 들어가야 하는데….

The entrance gate was only 1m. So the fish had to line up and go in continuously  overnight…

앞서거니 뒤서거니 빨리 들어가라 하시는 하나님! 다른 곳으로 가면 안 된다, 이쪽으로 들어가라!

God is the One Who commanded the fish in the front and the back to go in swiftly! Don’t go anywhere else, go this way!

그렇습니다. 우리가 열심히 부지런히 기도하면 반드시 기적은 일어납니다. 우리가 믿는 하나님은 무엇이든지 하실 수 있습니다.

That’s right. Miracles will occur when we pray diligently. God, we believe in, can do anything.
