뿐만 아니라 그 당시 뜻있는 많은 사람들은 종교는 심히 부패하고 타락했으며, 윤리와 도덕은 땅에 떨어졌으니 나라가 망하는 것은 당연한 것이지 한숨을 쉬며 일손을 떨어뜨리고 기가 죽어 힘없이 하루하루 마지 못해 살았습니다.

Moreover, during that time, many people believed that with the corruption of religion, ethics, and morals, it was natural for the country to decline. They sighed, lost heart, and lived reluctantly day after day.

그런 불쌍한 모습을 보고 하나님은 이스라엘 백성들을 불쌍히 여기사, 다시금 스바냐 선지자를 부르셔서 이스라엘 백성들에게 새로운 소망의 메시지를 주셨습니다.

After seeing such pitiful people, God had mercy on the Israelites and called the prophet Zephaniah again to give the Israelites a new message of hope.

그 말씀이 본문입니다. “그날에 사람이 예루살렘에 이르기를 두려워하지 말라, 시온아 네 손을 늘어뜨리지 말라” 여기“네 손을 늘어뜨리지 말라”는 말이 Living Bible에서는 “Cheer Up”“힘을 내라”는 뜻으로 쓰였고, 공동번역에는 ‘기운을 내라’고 되어 있습니다.

That is today’s passage,. “Do not fear, Zion; do not let your hands hang limp” In Living Bible, “do not let your hands hang limp” was translated as “cheer up.”In another version says, “keep in there.”

다시 말해서 나라의 멸망을 눈앞에 두고 슬퍼하고 절망하는 이스라엘 백성들에게 염려하지 말고 두려워하지 말라 새로운 희망이 있으니 “기죽지 말고 힘을 내라”는 것입니다. 현실은 절망적이지만 미래는 아직도 희망이 있다는 것입니다.

In other words, it was a message of hope that encouraged them not to give up despite the impending destruction they were about to face. “Don’t be discouraged and cheer up.” The present reality was desperate, but there was still hope for the future.

그런데 이 희망은 이스라엘의 남은 자로 인해서 생긴다고 했습니다. 여기 남은 자란 나무의 위 둥치를 베어내고 땅밑에 남아있는 그루터기를 비유한 말씀입니다.

But this hope is said to be stemmed from the remnant of Israel. The remnant implies the stumps of the overgrown trees and the stumps remaining under the ground.

다시 말해서 마지막까지 주님 바라보면서 신앙으로 남아있는사람들, 부패와 타락 속에서 아직도 정절을 지키고 있는 남은 사람들, 모든 시련과 유혹을 믿음으로 극복해가면서 살아가는 사람들, 절망과 낙심 속에서도 신앙 버리지 않고 메시아 대망의 희망을 포기하지 아니한 사람들, 세상이 어렵고 힘들어도 여전히 하나님 앞에 신앙을 지키고 살아가는 사람들, 이 남은 사람들에게 허락하신 격려의 메시지입니다.

In other words, those who remain in faith while looking at the Lord until the end, those who still maintain their fidelity in corruption, those who live by overcoming all trials and temptations by faith, hope of the Messiah's longing without abandoning faith in despair and discouragement. It is a message of encouragement given to those who did not give up, those who still keep their faith and live before God even if the world is difficult and hard.
