박헌성 목사 한영설교집 제7권 중에서(209)

어떤 교회의 목사님이 교인들과 함께 어느 가정에 심방을 갔습니다. 잠시 이야기를 나누고 나서 예배를 드리게 되었습니다.

A pastor with some congregation went to visit a family. They talked a bit and had the service.

찬송을 부르는데 갑자기 그 가정의 여 주인이 슬며시 일어나더니 부엌으로 가는 것이었습니다.

After singing a hymn, the woman owner of the home quietly went to the kitchen.

가스렌지를 켜고서 다시 돌아왔습니다. 한참 열심히 찬송을 부르는데 갑자기 전화벨이 ‘따르릉’ 하고 울렸습니다.

She turned on the gas stove and came back. Later the phone rang.

슬그머니 일어나더니 안방에 들어가서 전화를 받았습니다.

She took the phone in the bedroom.

예배 중이니까 잠시 뒤에 걸라고 하고 그냥 끊어버리면 될 텐데 2,3분 동안 할 이야기 다하고 돌아 왔습니다.

She couldn’t have hung up quickly and say to call back because she’s in service. But shetalked 2, 3 minutes and came back.

목사님이 성경을 읽고 나서 말씀으로 권면 하십니다.

The pastor read the Bible and began to preach.

그런데 부엌에서 ‘푹푹’ 끓는 소리가 나니까 슬그머니 일어나서 부엌에 가서 가스 불을 끄고 다시 돌아왔습니다.

But there was a noise from the kitchen so she stood up again to go to the kitchen to turn off the gas.

이제 목사님이 권면의 말씀을 마치시고 그 가정을 위해서 축복의 기도를 하는 시간이 되었습니다. 또 어느새 부엌에 가서 음식을 준비하고 있습니다.

Now, when the pastor was about the give the blessing prayer, she stood up again to prepare the food.

결국 그날 예배는 주인 없는 객들만의 예배가 되고 말았습니다.

That day, the service was held without the owner of the house.

예수님이 기뻐하시는 것은 마르다의 봉사가 아닙니다.

What would make Jesus happy is not Martha’s work.

마리아와 같이 주님 발 앞에 겸손히 앉아서 하나님의 말씀을 듣고 주님 앞에 참 예배를 드리는 모습입니다.

He wanted her to sit humbly at his feet and listen to his word just like Mary.

그렇습니다. 우리는 중요한 일을 해야 합니다. 그저 바쁘다, 분주하다, 일이 많다, 그런 것은 자랑할 일이 못됩니다.

Yes. We need to do what is important. We can’t be proud of the fact that we are busy.

흔히들 성공한 사람하면 바쁜 사람을 연상하는데 꼭 그렇지 않습니다.

Typically, we envision a successful person to be busy.

중요한 일은 지금 내가 무슨 일을 하느냐? 무엇 때문에 내가 이렇게 바쁘게 사느냐? 하는 것입니다. 마리아는 중요한 일을 선택했습니다.

But it’s not always. What’s important is to know what we are doing and why we are doing it. Mary chose the important task.

주님 발 앞에 앉아서 하나님의 말씀을 듣고 있었습니다.

She sat at the feet of Jesus and listened to his word.

다시 말해서 영적인 일에 관심을 두었습니다.

She was interested in spiritual matters.

예수님 쳐다봤습니다. 예수님만을 추구했습니다. 인간에게 가장 중요한 두 가지가 있습니다.

She looked at Jesus. She sought for Jesus. There are two things important for human.

하나는 모든 사람에게는 생존할 수 있는 권리가 있는 것이며 또 하나는 살만한 의미를 바로 알아야 한다는 것입니다.

One is the right to survive and the other is to know the purpose in life.

그래서 예수님께서는 “사람이 떡으로만 살 것이 아니요 하나님의 입으로 나오는 말씀으로 살 것이니라.”

That’s why Jesus said “a man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.”

그렇습니다. 말씀을 듣지 않고는 삶의 의미를 찾을 수 없습니다.

Yes. We cannot find meaning in life without listening to God’s word.

예배도 교육도 선교도 봉사도 말씀 안에서 이루어져야 하는 것입니다.

Worship, education, missions, and service need to centered in the Word.
