미국 최초의 주지사였던 William Bradford 동상 밑에는 이렇게 쓰여 있습니다. “하나님의 영광을 위하여, 복음을 전파하기 위하여 우리는 여기에 왔노라.”

William Bradford was the first governor of the United States. Beneath his statute, it says, “For the glory of God. We came here to advance the gospel.”

그리고 초대 대통령 George Washington을 비롯해서 Franklin Roosevelt 그리고 마침내 Abraham Lincoln 대통령이 11월 4째주 목요일을 “추수감사절”로 공포하면서 이런 말을 했습니다.

Past Presidents of America, including George Washington, Franklin Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln issued Thanksgiving proclamations. President Lincoln was the first to announce that the nation will celebrate Thanksgiving Day on the fourth Thursday of November.

“우리의 경건한 믿음의 조상이 America 땅에 감사의 씨를 뿌린 그 신앙을 자손 만대에 계승하기 위하여 이 날을 국경일로 정한다.”

“I, the President of the United States of America, do hereby designate this day as a national holiday to succeed the faith of our ancestors for they sowed the seeds of thanksgiving.”

그렇습니다. 위대한 미국의 건설은 하나님의 은혜에 대한 감사의 신앙을 가진 경건한 믿음의 조상, 청교도들 때문이었습니다.

That’s right. The United States was founded by Puritans. They were godly people who understood the importance of giving thanks to God for His blessings.

그들이 어렵고 힘든 가운데서도 눈물로 하나님의 은혜를 기억하며 감사의 씨를 뿌렸기 때문에 이 미국은 위대한 축복을 받게 된 것입니다.

The United States thereafter received great blessings because the Puritans remembered the grace of God and sowed the seeds of thanksgiving despite their difficult circumstance.

그래서 미국의 후손들은 자기들에게 하나님의 은혜에 대한 감사의 정신을 심어준 102명의 선조를 기념하기 위해서 하얀 대리석으로 높은 건물을 지었습니다. 그것이 바로 New York, Manhattan에 있는 102층 ‘Empire State Building’입니다.

Thereafter, Americans built a tall white marble building to commemorate the 102 ancestors who instilled in them a spirit of gratitude for God’s grace. This is the well-known Empire State Building, a 102-story skyscraper in Manhattan, New York.
