일찍이 이스라엘 백성들이 출애굽 할 때 모세는 시내산에 올라가 하나님으로부터 십계명을 받고 있었습니다.

Early on, when the Israelites were in exodus, Moses went up to Mount Sinai to receive the Ten Commandments from God.

그때 시내산 밑에 있던 이스라엘 백성들은 뭐 했습니까? 모세가 보이지 않는다고 금송아지 우상을 만들었습니다.

What did the Israelites do at the bottom of the mountain? They created a golden calf idol because they couldn’t see Moses.

그 우상 앞에서 먹고 마시고 춤추고 야단이었습니다. 왜 그랬습니까? 그 당시 이방 나라들은 우상을 만들고 그 앞에서 먹고 마시고 춤추는 일이 많았습니다.

They made a feast and danced in front of the idol. Why? At that time, foreign countries often ate, drank, and danced in front of idols.

그런데 그것이 하고 싶었던 것입니다. 조용히 사는 게 싫었습니다. 평안한 삶이 재미가 없었습니다.

But that’s what they wanted to do. They didn’t want to live quietly. A peaceful life was not fun.

싸우기도 하고 다른 나라를 정복하고 나라도 확장도 하고 권세도 누리기를 원했습니다. 소위 제국주의적 욕망이 있었습니다.

They wanted to fight, conquer other countries, expand, and enjoy power; they had an imperial desire.

그렇습니다. 진정한 승리는 평화에 있습니다. 스포츠에서 최대의 승리는 기권승입니다.

Yes, the real victory lies in peace. The biggest win in sports is win by default by the opponent quitting.

싸우지 않고 얻는 승리 최고의 승리 아닙니까? 그런데 이스라엘 백성들은 이런 승리보다 왕을 세워서 다른 나라 이방 나라처럼 싸우면서 살기를 원했습니다.

Isn’t it the best victory to win without fighting? But rather than this victory, the Israelites wanted to build a king and fight like other nations.

그렇습니다. 우리가 아는 대로 이 세상에 왕이 다스리는 나라 완전한 나라가 어디 있습니까?

Yes, as we know, is there a perfect kingdom where a king rules?
