그리고 세 번째 “그래 시몬아, 실망하고 부끄러워할 것 없다. 나는 너의 그 작은 이기적인 사랑이라도 원한다. 세상적으로 너를 먼저 사랑하는 이기적인 사랑으로도 나를 사랑해 주면 고맙다.”

On the third time, Jesus implied, “I know, Simon. Do not be discouraged. Do not be ashamed. That tiny love that you have for me, that is enough. Though your love may not be perfect, I still want your love. Though your love may be selfish, I still appreciate your love.

베드로는 너무도 감격스러웠습니다. “오, 주님. 주님이 나의 모든 것을 다 아십니다. 이 작은 내 사랑도 좋다면 나는 이 사랑으로라도 참으로 주님 사랑하기를 원합니다.”

Peter was so moved. “O, Lord. You know everything. If this tiny love of mine is acceptable, it is my utmost desire to love you, my Lord.”

그렇습니다. 오늘도 주님은 피곤하게 사는 우리의 인생살이와 삶의 현장에 찾아오셔서 이 인간적이고 이기적인 사랑으로라도 주님을 사랑하고 있는가 물으시고 있습니다.

That’s right. Even today, our Lord Jesus meets us where we are. He wants to know whether we love him regardless of how trivial our love may be.

“아무개야, 네가 이 사람들보다 나를 더 사랑하느냐?” 우리는 무엇이라고 대답해야 합니까?

“Do you love me more than these?” How will you respond to this question?

“오, 주님. 내가 정말 주님 사랑하기를 원하지만 지금 내 양손에는 세상살이의 고달픈 그물이 지어져 있습니다.

I pray that this would be our confession: “O, Lord. I sincerely desire to love you, but I am still holding onto these fishing nets. I am still grabbing onto the things of this world.

나는 먹고 살기 위해 인생의 갈릴리 바다에서 피곤하게 지쳐 있습니다.

I am still out here on the sea of Galilee trying to make a living; exhausted.

그러나 주님 그렇더라도 비록 주님 보시기에 너무도 보잘 것 없는 인간적인 작은 사랑이지만 나는 주님을 정말 사랑합니다.” 고백할 수 있기를 바랍니다.

But Lord, my love for you is genuine. Although my love for you may seem minute, I love you wholeheartedly.”

그렇습니다. 우리는 예수님을 사랑해야 합니다. 예수님을 사랑하지 않으면 기도할 수 없습니다. 예수님을 사랑하지 않으면 말씀에 순종할 수 없습니다.

That’s right. We ought to love Jesus. If we do not have love for Christ, we cannot pray or obey the Word of God.

예수님을 사랑하지 않으면 온전한 예배드릴 수 없습니다. 예수님을 사랑하지 않으면 하나님을 기쁘시게 하고 바르게 살 수 없습니다.

If we do not have love for Christ, we cannot offer acceptable worship to God. If we do not have love for Christ, we cannot live a life that is pleasing to God.

IMF 때 초등학교 다니는 딸 둘 데리고 무작정 미국에 오신 신앙 좋은 집사님 내외분이 있었습니다.

A married couple moved to the U.S. with their two daughters when Korea faced the IMF crisis. This couple had strong faith.

몇 년 지났을 때에 영주권 받을 기회가 주어졌는데 인터뷰를 앞에 두고 변호사가 이 아이들에게 미국에 와서 공부했다고 하면 절대로 안 된다고 주의를 주었습니다.

After a few years, they were given the opportunity to have their Green Card interview. Their lawyer advised their children not to mention anything about studying in the U.S.

이 아이들은 주일학교를 잘 다니는 믿음이 좋은 아이들이었습니다. 예수님을 사랑하는 사람은 거짓말하면 안 된다고 배웠습니다.

These children regularly attended Sunday school and were taught well in the faith. They were taught that those who love Jesus ought not to lie.
