그러나 느헤미야는 하나님의 자녀, 크리스천답게 믿음과 용기를 가지고 백성들을 설득했습니다. 그리고 백성들의 마음을 하나로 묶어서 조국 재건, 예루살렘 성을 건축하게 됩니다.

However, Nehemiah acted in faith as a child of God. He took courage and began to persuade the Israelites. Nehemiah united the hearts of the people and began to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem.

그런데 그때 예상했던 대로 핍박하고 방해하는 사람들이 많았습니다. 끊임없이 싸움을 걸어왔고, ‘네가 그렇게 성을 지어서 네가 왕이 되려고 하는구나.’ 별별 소문을 다 냈습니다.

As expected, many opposed this idea. Many came to argue and fight with Nehemiah. They even spread rumors saying, “He wants to build these walls so that he can become the

king.”

어떤 사람은 페르샤 아닥사스다 왕에게 투서를 보냈습니다. ‘지금 느헤미야가 당신에게 도전하려고 성을 쌓아 힘을 기르고 있습니다. 그러니 당장 못 짓게 하세요.’ 중상하고 모략했습니다.

One person wrote a letter to Artaxerxes, the king of Persia. “Nehemiah is building the walls of Jerusalem to rebel against you. Command him to stop.” People continuously slandered Nehemiah.

그래도 안 되니까 이제는 느헤미야에게 그 공사를 지연시키기 위해서 산발랏 도비야 게셈 같은 사람들이 몇 차례 우리하고 이야기하자고 회담을 제의하고 유혹했습니다.

At last, people such as Sanballat, Tobiah, and Geshem kept asking Nehemiah to meet with them. They sought to talk with him so that they could stop the rebuilding of the wall.

그럴 때, 느헤미야가 어떻게 합니까? ‘예루살렘 성 건축은 거룩하고 영광스러운 하나님의 일이다. 이 일을 방해하고 못하게 하는 것은 사탄이 하는 일이다.’

How did Nehemiah respond? He said, “Rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem is holy and glorious work. Opposing this is the work of Satan.”

그러므로 ‘내가 이제 큰 역사를 하니 내려가지 못하겠노라.” 그들의 회담을 거절했습니다.

He continued and said, “I am carrying on a great project and cannot go down.” He refused to meet with them.

그저 나에게 주어진 예루살렘성 재건하는 일을 나는 충성스럽게 감당하며 하나님의 자녀답게 살겠다는 결심입니다.

Nehemiah sought to be faithful to his calling of rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem. He was determined to live as a child of God.

이런 느헤미야의 모습 속에서 우리는 몇 가지 교훈을 얻을 수 있습니다.

We can learn several lessons from Nehemiah.
