우리의 주위에도 술 취해서 일어난 불미스러운 불행한 일, 안타까운 일들이 많습니다. Wife가 떠나고, 가정이 깨지고 자녀들이 불행해지고 얼마나 많습니까.
Many around us have lost so many things from being addicted to wine. Some have been abandoned by their wives. Getting drunk has led to many family break ups. How many children have suffered from this?

어느 집사님이 술이 취해서 몸도 잘 가누지 못하고 집에 들어오는데 3살 먹은 어린 아들이 아빠를 보면서 ‘아빠, 아빠’ 손뼉을 치면서 반겼습니다.
One day, a deacon came home drunk. He was not able to walk properly. His 3-year-old son clapped his hands and greeted him, saying, “Daddy, daddy.”

아빠가 기분이 너무 좋아서 아들을 번쩍 들어 올려 어깨에 무등을 태웠습니다. 그리고 빙글빙글 돌다가 넘어졌는데 그때 어깨에 올려놓은 아들이 떨어져 즉사했습니다.
He was so happy that he lifted his son and put him on his back. While he was spinning, he fell along with his son. His son died right there.

그런데도 아버지는 너무 술이 취해서 아무것도 모르고 그 옆에 쓰러져 쿨쿨 잠만 잤습니다. 뒤늦게 이것을 본 아내가 졸도했습니다.
This man was so drunk that he had no idea what he had done. He just fell asleep. When his wife found out, she fainted.

오랜 시간 후에 깨어난 아버지는 자기의 술 취함 때문에 아들이 죽었다는 것을 깨닫고 죄책감에 시달리다가 정신병원에 들어갔지만 일 년 후에 죽었습니다.
When the man woke up after a while, he realized that he had killed his son. He couldn’t bear the guilt. He also died after living in a mental hospital for a year.

그렇습니다. 예수 믿는 성도는 술에 취하지 말아야 합니다. 정신이 흐리면 안 됩니다. 우리의 영혼을 흐리게 하는 것, 우리의 정신을 혼란스럽게 하는 것은 무조건 멀리해야 합니다.
That’s right. Christians must not get drunk. We must be sober-minded. We need to avoid anything that blurs our judgment or hurts our souls.

취할 가능성이 있는 것은 아예 처음부터 가까이 하지 말라는 것입니다.
We do not want to get close to something that has the potential to intoxicate us.

그래서 바울은 ‘악은 모양이라도 버리라’ 술과 마약만 그런 것 아니지요.
For this reason, the Apostle Paul said, “Abstain from every form of evil,” which is not limited to alcohol or drugs.
